When we first got out to California, we stayed in Berkeley. I only grabbed a couple of shots, but we had a pretty great view of the bay from our room.
Berkeley was a really pretty town. I loved all the houses as you travel up the mountain. We also checked out the college. I can’t imagine going to school in such a pretty place! Beats Indiana for sure!
The second half of our trip was spent at the Fairmont in downtown San Francisco. This hotel is amazing – and huge! It’s the first ever Fairmont and has amazing views of the city since it’s located at the top of Nob Hill. If you’re ever in San Francisco, I recommend checking out the Fairmont’s Tonga Room. It’s a tiki-style restaurant in their old pool room…the pool is still filled with water, but they have a little boat in the middle of it where live bands play while you eat! It’s so fun! And they have really good drinks and food.
We had perfect view of the bay and Coit Tower from our hotel room.
There are cable cars everywhere! It’s the best way to get back up the hills after you walk all the way down.
I made it a point to stop at the Painted Ladies. If you ever watched Full House, you’ll recognize them from the opening credits of the show. I had that song stuck in my head all day. The park was packed with people trying to get a photo in front of these houses.
We also made a stop at Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. It’s a tiny little bakery, but their doughnuts are SO GOOD. My favorite was the one that looks like a Pop Tart. I heard there are super long lines on the weekends, but we went on a Tuesday morning and there wasn’t a line.
I have this photo in here only because the girl is sitting beneath a sign that says “Panhandling Prohibited.”
On the last day of our trip, we took a quick drive back to the Golden Gate Bridge. It was really cloudy the first time we went and I really wanted a better photo of it. Nick gave in and we went back…it was still so windy…I had dirt everywhere. Totally worth it though!
I’ll miss you, San Francisco! Can’t wait till I’m able to come back. If you’ve ever been to SF, what’s your favorite spot to visit?
