Here at Iron + Honey Photography, we embrace all different types of love. I want to know your love story through and through no matter how “cringy” you may think it is. Thanks to technology, it has opened a whole new realm into the dating world. Dating apps galore and for many couples that is how they meet and guess what – no shame in your game! Lauren and Michael’s love story is one that started off small and has grown into something everlasting. Keep reading to see more of this beautiful Chicago Boat Wedding Reception.

Bumble = Happily Ever After

Lauren and Michael met through Bumble when they were both living in Houston, Texas. Fast forward 8 months and Lauren was moving to Chicago for school, while Michael stayed back in Texas. Battling the obstacles of long-distance for 2 years, these two finally were reunited when Michael found a job and moved up to Chicago to join Lauren.

Now you’re probably waiting for the juicy stuff, right? The proposal story, the lovey-dovey type stuff… don’t worry I got you. Michael and Lauren went on a trip to Cancun along with some of their friends. On the last night of their trip while they were taking pictures on the beach, Michael got down on one knee and popped the question. Ah… a beach proposal in Cancun? What could be better than that?! Now the two were officially engaged and couldn’t wait to say I do. Told you it was juicy!

Chicago Wedding Portraits

Lauren and Michael had originally planned to have their wedding in Mykonos, Greece. Due to the pandemic, plans changed so they decided to have something much smaller here in Chicago! Lauren and Michael actually had their ceremony earlier in the day, so I arrived a few hours before their reception so we could get some wedding portraits! Lauren and Michael really wanted to capture Chicago in their photos so hitting up all of the right spots was KEY.

If you’re looking to have greenery, open space and Chicago city views than Milton Lee Olive Park is the place to be. You’re able to get those gorgeous waterfront views and have the city skyline behind you. Truly a one of a kind location and perfect for anyone taking their wedding photos. After that, we made our way over to the Chicago Theatre to really capture those old Hollywood-type vibes. As some of you may see the Chicago Theatre sign is an iconic one, not just here but really anywhere! It holds so much history about this precious city and truly speaks to what Chicago was, is, and will be.

We ran through some alleyways that really caught some of that industrial urban life living that Chicago embodies before heading over to the La Salle Street Bridge. You may notice that I like to shoot at this location a lot and that is because of one reason and one reason only. It’s because I want to of course! Okay, but to be honest it really is such an iconic location for a reason. Not only for its gorgeous views but great architecture as well.

Chicago Boat Wedding Reception

This reception was a little bit different than most since it was on a boat! Yes, you read that right. Chicago’s First Lady cruise line to be more exact. Cruising down the Chicago river in this gorgeous boat, enjoying the scenery that is the city of Chicago. Surrounded by nothing but water, good company, and the beautiful city skyline this truly was a magical way to end their wedding day.

Thanks to the lovely Entertaining Co. for a delicious catered buffet, we were able to eat some amazing food while cruising underneath the stars. We then moved into cutting their cake (shoutout Amy Beck Cake Design) before the final hoorah of the night. When we all think of the perfect “movie-like” ending, what do we think of? If you said fireworks, then you are absolutely correct. Not only did Lauren and Michael have their reception on this gorgeous boat, but they ended the night holding each other close underneath the fireworks. A perfect ending to an even more perfect day, don’t you think?
