Where has this past year gone?! I’m thirty. Ouch…that stung a bit. I’ve been asked if I feel like I’m thirty yet and honestly, I have no idea what that even feels like. What kind of question is that?

You can read my initial post when I came up with the idea for the 30 Before 30 list here and you can read my half birthday (6 month) update here. It was really tough. I don’t know why I did this to myself, but here it goes!

  1. Take a fitness class.
Yes! I went to a few barre classes at The Barre Code which was great and really challenging. I need to get back into it to work on my flexibility. I’ve also gone to SoulCycle . If you’re ever in Chicago, you need to take one of Hallie Wilson’s classes! I definitely feel my body improving. I can really tell the day after shooting a wedding. Now I don’t feel sore and no longer get the “wedding hangover.”
  2. Eat healthy.
I’ve been trying! Doughnuts will always be my weakness. I started getting meals delivered through HelloFresh. I love it! I’m cooking more healthier options and eating out less. I’m saving some money and eating healthier so I’m all about that!
  3. Lose 15lbs.
Yeah that didn’t happen…I feel pretty good though between working out and eating better, so weight doesn’t matter, right?
  4. Go on a clothes diet.
When I moved a couple months ago I purged a lot. I feel like I could have let go of a lot more, but it helped! I found a great resource for a minimalist wardrobe here.  I’ve been meaning to try it, but haven’t gotten the courage to start. Have you tried it? If so, let me know how you’ve been doing!
  5. Create a fun and productive workspace.
Yes! I moved recently, so I have a new desk and some fun things on it to keep me inspired. Next up is a gallery wall so I can hang some of my favorite prints!
  6. Visit the West Coast.
I did this! In April. You can check out photos from the trip here, here, here, and here! Also, I’m currently in Las Vegas for my 30th! Check out my insta to follow along!
  7. Get a passport.
Got the passport…now I just need to use it!
  8. See more live music and concerts.
YES. I went to Lollapalooza and a few other concerts over the summer and fall.
  9. Make more weekends/set actual office hours.
I’m still working on this. I don’t check my email over the weekend unless I have a wedding. I also try not to do much editing over the weekend, but sometimes I can’t help it. If I’m home I feel like I need to be working.
  10. Build something.
Does furniture count? haha I haven’t really built anything, but I have plans to make some fun shelves like this.
  11. Read more news.
Yeah I’ve been doing this…still depressing. haha
  12. Educate myself on politics.
Yep. I voted this year. Let’s talk about something else more fun, please.
  13. Keep houseplants alive.
I currently have some succulents, an air plant, and a venus fly trap in my apartment. They look alive still, so I think I’m doing pretty well!
  14. 365 Project.
Didn’t do this. Oops. I’m pretty much taking photos every day though, just for other people. Does that count?
  15. Get organized.
I set up a cleaning schedule with things to do around the apartment daily. It was working for a while, but since my schedule is inconsistent, I’ve been slacking. Excuses, excuses.
  16. Plan a fancy 30th Birthday Party.
YES! I’m in Vegas right now!
  17. Learn how to sew/get a sewing machine.
    Yeah, no. Meh.
  18. Take more photos of family and friends.
I’ve been doing this a little bit. I have noticed that people just don’t like getting their picture taken. I found this article which brings up a great point of how you need to feel great in your skin and not worry about how you look. You want there to be photos of you around for your family to look back on and remember you. Stop hiding from the camera!
  19. Print more photos.
I’m currently going through photos I’ve taken over the years. I’m trying to put together a set of my favorites to print and hang in my apartment.
  20. Mentor.
I met up with a couple photographers, but not really to mentor…just to talk shop.
  21. Join a group.
I joined The Rising Tide Society and met so many helpful and kind fellow creatives! If you’re looking for a place to network and get useful information about your creative business, this is a great group to be a part of.
  22. Go hiking.
I did this! You can read about it and see photos here. I also went in August, but I haven’t posted the photos from that yet. Where has the time gone?
  23. Give blood.
I’m kind of upset I haven’t gotten around to this.
  24. Volunteer.
Also upset I didn’t do this either. I suck.
  25. World Series Game.
Well…I didn’t go to the WS, but the WS was in Chicago! As a White Sox fan I was upset my team didn’t make it, but I’m happy for the Cubs and their fans!
  26. Start playing the violin again.
    Also haven’t done this…
  27. Invest.
Yes! I started using this great app called Digit. It saves you money without you having to think about it! I’ve saved so much this year! So happy I started using it!
  28. Do another photography show.
Never did this, but I never really looked into it.
  29. Treat mah-self
I went on a few trips this year, so that counts!
  30. Learn to code/improve my website.
I’ve been trying to do this, but haven’t done very much. Pretty much if I’m trying to do something specific, I’ll look up a tutorial, but haven’t devoted a lot of time to it.

Well, I’m proud of what I accomplished, but there are some things I wish I could have done. A lot happened this past year which included me moving and continuing to grow my business. This just made me realize how fast a year goes by. There’s always next year!
