No, this post isn’t about the movie with Mary-Kate and Ashley. This is about how I decided on a whim to join my brother on a trip to New York and was there for less than a day. Tony wanted to go check out a potential job and I offered to go with since neither of us had been there before. Our flight left at 6am (We JUST made it, too. Whoops!) and we came back that evening (after a few flight delays) around midnight.
It was difficult trying to decide where to go in the very limited amount of time we had. I didn’t realize how big NY is! We really just wandered around until we recognized something, so there wasn’t a clear plan going into this. (obviously)
I feel almost silly posting about this being almost 30 and never having been to The Big Apple before. Does anyone even call it that? Or is it one of those things only tourists say like how people call Chicago “Chi-town?” One thing I did notice besides how much bigger NY is and there are no alleys, is that there is no wind. Chicago is SO windy. And no, that’s not why it’s called “The Windy City.”
When we arrived, we took a cab to Central Park and only saw the very southern part of it before making our way to Times Square. After a quick lunch at The Counter, we stumbled upon Bryant Park before heading to the Empire State Building and the Flatiron building.
From there, we went to Brooklyn so Tony could see the office building which was the whole reason for the trip. After that, we ended up in Bushwick which has the most colorful murals I’ve ever seen! It reminds me of the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago, but with way more murals. Then we headed to the East River for a view of the skyline before having dinner at The Meatball Shop. (which was delicious!)
Needless to say I was pretty worn out when we got back. I feel like we covered a lot of ground, but we only scraped the surface. I definitely surpassed my step goal! If it wasn’t for my shoot with Jess the next day, I’m pretty sure I would have stayed in bed. I’d love to take another trip back and stay more than 8 hours so I can enjoy more of what NY has to offer!
